Whether you're a swimmer or pilot, you can participate without being registered for the actual race—just recruit a pilot partner, and up to three swimmers can share one pilot as long as you maintain the same pace and stay within 30 feet of each other. Registration is required for all participants and free to join, but swimmers must have an active USMS annual or 30-day trial membership (one-day memberships aren't available), while pilots only need to register and sign a waiver.
