Two iconic footwear brands. Both make comfortable, trendy, and iconic shoes.
Fila vs. Skechers! How should you decide which one to get?
Easy, you can try both brands and settle for your favorite, but you’ll need a lot of money for that.
That’s why I made you this comparison between the two giants. Get all the facts and decide for yourself!
Let’s Talk History!
Did you know that Fila preceded Skechers by 80 years? Wait till you hear the rest!
Fila started in 1911. In case you have a trivia Tuesday coming up, you are welcome!
Most of us haven’t heard about Fila until recently when their chunky shoes rose to fame. So, what happened in between?
The first fifty years of Fila were all about knitwear. It didn’t start manufacturing shoes until 1971 when the company decided to specialize in tennis wear. It was about the same time when Adidas launched their iconic pair of leather shoes in Stan Smith’s name.
Throughout the 1980s, Fila stayed on the tennis track. Its sales didn’t strike until recent years. The F logo is now widely recognized, mostly thanks to the famous Disruptor pair.
Skechers started in 1992 as an American footwear company. It spread throughout the world fast, although Nike was dominating the market at that time.
The reason Skechers got its fame fast is its street shoes. People loved Nike’s athletic shoes, but no one says no to a comfortable, fashionable, pair of street shoes!
As brands like Nike and Adidas started to shine and gain attention, Skechers started fading away.
The downfall kept going until the past few years when they decided to revamp their designs to blow the market up.
And what a blow up it was! Apparently Joe Montana put them on the map for the push-ups but their running shoes have steadily gained notoriety over the years.
Pros & Cons - All the Juicy Details
Which pair should you buy? The chunky Filas or the comfortable Skechers? To decide, let’s see how Skechers prioritize comfort over the trendy styles that pretty much define Fila.
You hear the word ‘Fila’, your mind automatically goes to the large, bulky pair of shoes everyone was wearing this past summer. Let’s delve into the interesting details.
The Skechers have more than what meets the eye. Sure, comfort is hard to beat. But it’s not the only thing that identifies the brand. They are widely popular for this who have flat feet too.
Differences & Similarities - We’ve Come to the Crossroads!
There are a few points where Fila and Skechers meet. There are also a few aspects where they couldn’t be further than each other.
No one did a full brand makeover better than Fila did.
Starting with only knitwear, the brand now manufactures clothing for most famous sports. These sports include basketball, tennis, cross-training, swimming, and golf.
Whereas Skechers only specializes in shoes, leaving out any other kind of clothing.
On top of that, unlike Skechers’ traditional designs, Fila is leaning more towards fashionable trends. Skechers’ priority is your comfort, while Fila wants you to make a statement with your look.
Well, there’s the obvious similarity. They’re both multinational footwear brands, but that’s not what you came here for.
The most prominent similarity between Fila and Skechers is that they’re both overshadowed by other brands.
The primary reason for this is that they don’t invest in celebrity endorsements as Nike and Adidas do.
Here’s the thing, as much as we like to deny it, we love matching celebrities’ looks. You see Beyonce wearing a pair of shoes, you want the same thing.
Adidas and Nike managed to use that fact to their advantage successfully.
That’s the common thing between Fila and Skechers; they don’t sponsor celebrities or let them model their products. However, that has nothing to do with their quality. They’re still two of the best footwear brands in the world.
Fila vs. Skechers - The Verdict
The biggest difference is that Skechers ended up focusing their efforts on making a high quality running shoe. Shoes that last, look good and support runners.
Fila has become an afterthought in running circles. They spent a lot of money trying to compete with the likes of Adidas & Nike and never could keep up. To the point that Fila running shoes are not even considered by any above average runner due to their lack of support, durability and reputation.
The choice between Fila and Skechers is not that hard. I prefer Skechers.
