This Valdez event celebrates the historic Pack Trail, originally built in 1898 by the US Army to connect the Port of Valdez with Eagle, Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and later to link military posts Fort Liscum and Fort Egbert. The trail was eventually upgraded into a wagon road (later the Richardson Highway) that followed the Lowe River instead, leaving this mountain section abandoned for nearly 90 years until its recent relocation.
